Creating a top 100 list of my favorite thing to do was, as expected, not an easy task. I will not over-explain the criteria that I used to categorize and rank these films, but I will have to highlight that this might be the only time in my life that I will do it. I might make some changes, but I think: “This is it” (No Time To Die reference). I have been creating this list for 4 years, wrestling with my top 10, then with my top 25, and recently top 50. Every year, I had to watch those classics that were on my blind spots, to be able to say: “Ok Irvin, these are true classics and ones that need to be in your top 20, or 50”. The most daunting task was to rank the films that were not on my top 50 and place them in an order that made sense to me. I expect that some will question my rankings, however, here is a little bit on the criteria I choose to rank my top 100:
A) Experience in a movie theater or at home.
B) Emotional connection.
C) How many times I revisit the film.
D) Profound impact = The type of film I don’t need to revisit often to appreciate its grandeur.
E) Subjects and Themes are still relevant (especially films from other years: '50s, '60s, '70s, ’80s, etc).
F) Production values.
G) Acting performances.
P.S.: There are some movies that are tied. They all have something in common, just figure it out…and hey remember, this is MY list. ;-)
