What makes Prisoners so unique is the layers upon layers of goings-on and how they all connect. It's a gem that kick-started a run of fantastic films by Denis Villeneuve this decade.
This film is a ride, all the way to the last shot. Villeneuve strings you along slowly with a brooding cinematography by Roger Deakins and a haunting score by the late great Jóhann Jóhannsson.
Jake Gyllenhaal gives his expected solid performance, but it was Hugh Jackman who gave (in my eyes) his career best performance.
It's one of the best suspense/thrillers of the decade.
My score: ★★★★★
