The latest work of Clint Eastwood is the unfortunate story of a man who, in the midst of a heroic deed, was wrongfully blamed for a tragedy; thus showing us how we live in constant distrust and find to pick at things to find the negatives in them. That comes especially when looking for answers in the wake of a terrible event.
The production quality and set designs aren't exactly anything that'll wow you, so the power in this film is in the performances. Paul Walter Hauser shined among all of them as the title character. Kathy Bates gives us the most emotional of all the performances as Bobi Jewell and Sam Rockwell delivers, yet again, another solid supporting performance.
While this film does jab at government mishandlings and media scrutiny, it almost grandstands while doing so. There is that mild element of "fake news" that is used as a crutch throughout the film. There are also issues in certain characterizations (namely Kathy Scruggs, played by Olivia Wilde).
My score: ★★★½
