While the Citizenfour (2014, dir. Laura Poitras) documentary works better to inform firsthand of the contents here, Snowden works in showing us his personal experiences with dealing with the things he found out about the government surveillance programs.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt played Edward Snowden to perfection, with his troubled stress and scrutinizing realities of the government practices of the private lives of people. It's not easy information to keep to oneself, and the conflicted nature of Snowden is one that Gordon-Levitt portrayed well.
Oliver Stone, as per usual, takes his time in telling the story and there is a mild identity issue with this film, grappling with both Snowden's personal story and transitioning to a doc style movie.
In the end, it's still good enough to educate those who don't know this Ed Snowden situation.
